LV The Place Bangkok Photo by Website/LV The Place Bangkok

Famous for its signature monogram canvas with interlocking “LV” letters, Louis Vuitton is one of the first luxury houses to rule the high-end market. On Feb. 29, Louis Vuitton landed in Bangkok to unveil LV The Place Bangkok.

Located at Gaysorn Amarin Shopping Center in Ratchaprasong Intersection, it has emerged as one of the newest destinations, not just for luxury lovers but for cultural enthusiasts as well. It features experiential spaces such as a modern boutique, a visually aesthetic café, and a fine dining restaurant led by esteemed Chef Gaggan Anand.

Curious to know more? We’ve created a quick guide for you before you explore the lavish enclaves that await you at LV The Place Bangkok.

Loading...

How to Get There and Essential Tips

In the case of commuters, ride the BTS and alight at Chit Lom station. Upon reaching Exit 2, you can easily spot the building adorned with a huge LV logo and twinkling embellishments. For those arriving with their own vehicle, take advantage of Gaysorn Amarin’s exclusive valet parking service.

It is important to note that the dress code is smart casual; avoid wearing slippers, beach sandals, and flip-flops. Gentlemen should wear a polo shirt or long-sleeved top paired with trousers, and closed shoes. For the private dining room to be reserved, a minimum of six people is required.

Perhaps you may be worried that entering this luxurious haven will have you breaking your New Year's Resolution of spending less (and not buying another LV bag? We understand the struggle!), but fret not. LV The Place Bangkok offers a FREE exhibit called “Visionary Journeys” in a bid to showcase the maison’s creativity for over 150 years through a fun and immersive experience.

You will be entering a tunnel made of vintage Louis Vuitton trunks enveloped by digital screens that project moving images. As you pass through this trunk space, you will reach a room filled with LV treasure chests of archives which are real pieces of high value.

Moving over to the next zone, prepare to be awestruck with the brand’s most iconic bags encased in a symbolic “bubble of creativity.” Moreover, you may also enjoy a room presenting LV’s collaborations with various artists and labels, including Yayoi Kusama, Stephen Sprouse, and US-based streetwear brand Supreme, displayed across 60 digital screens.

What’s more, you can bring home mementos such as postcards or, if luck is on your side, you can get an LV tote bag via the interactive screen with colourful panels inspired by the top view of bazaars that you can see at Rod Fai Market Ratchada.

The exhibition will grace Bangkok for a year before transferring to other key destinations across the world. Make sure to book your spot before you visit, click here.

Restaurant

Legendary Indian chef Gaggan Annand has collaborated with LV The Place Bangkok aimed at bringing two cultures together. This is the maison’s debut restaurant in South Asia and will be filling your taste buds with a combination of local Thai flavours and Louis Vuitton's signature styles, with prices starting at THB4,000 for an eight-course lunch and THB8,000 for a 17-course dinner.

As part of its “5S menu” offerings – sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and surprise – each dish is exclusive, seasonal, and uniquely detailed. These delights include the “Lick It Up” dish, a flower-shaped guava candy with an explosive yogurt on top, tomato nectar, cold curry, and more.

Located on the second floor, the restaurant will greet its diners with Louis Vuitton trunks artfully stacked at the forefront. As you make your way towards the dining area, you’ll be captivated by avant-garde display sets, flower lamps embellished with the brand’s iconic LV monogram, a great kitchen view, and an elegant space overall.

Neighbourhood Guide to the Hip Charoen Krung District
Instagram Central The Original Store Photo by Instagram/Central: The Original Store

The Charoen Krung district lies in the heart of Bangkok, teeming with history, cultural treasures, trendy spots, and community spaces frequented by the locals and most curious flaneurs.

It is known for being the home of the Charoen Krung Road, regarded as Thailand's first paved road that was built in the 19th century. The iconic road has borne witness to the various developments and transformations of the capital through the years, and this is evident in the harmonious mix of modern and traditional establishments that we now see across the district, from colonial structures and charming shophouses to boutique hotels, art galleries, foodie joints, and more.

Although officially recognised as a "Creative District” where contemporary art, culture, and heritage meld, Charoen Krung is anything but overrated. On your next jaunt to the district, here are four places you must check out.

Ped Prachak

Loading...

Ped Prachak is an institution of its own, as far as authentic Cantonese roasted duck in Bangkok is concerned. The restaurant that stands today along Charoen Krung Road began as a humble roasted duck stall in 1909, established by a Cantonese immigrant named Choy Kaung.

The spot continues to teem with patrons young and old, with favourites ranging from the signature Cantonese-style roasted duck to other dishes like crispy pork, egg noodles, fried rice, and more.

Where: Ped Prachak, 1415, Charoen Krung Road, Silom, Bangkok

JUA

Loading...

Fancy some grilled skewered meats for an unpretentious dinner to cap the day? Head on to JUA, a modern izakaya housed within a three-storey building that used to be an illegal gambling house back in the day.

The minimalist structure blends the sensibilities of Thai and Japanese design. Further adding to its character are the artworks and understated color scheme. The skewered meats and small plates are served tapas-style, which are perfect for communal dining. View JUA's menu here.

Where: JUA, 672/49, Charoen Krung 28, Bangkok

Central: The Original Store

Loading...

Central: The Original Store is your one-stop shop for shopping, reading, good chow, and art. The Chirathivat family opened the first Central store along Charoen Krung Road in 1950, which quickly became an urban lifestyle hub that underscored the heritage and culture of Bangkok.

Today, the structure stands not just as a marker of the city's post-war cultural turn, but also as a contributing community to the ever-shifting neighbourhood. You can find a library, an exhibition space, a restaurant, a music bar, and various shops at Central!

Where: Central: The Original Store, 1266 Charoen Krung, Bangkok

Speedy Grandma Gallery

Loading...

Want to view more art? Speedy Grandma should be up your alley. This independent art space spotlights experimental and creative works on the belief that "art does not and cannot exist in a vacuum, isolated and insula from surrounding dialogues."

The gallery is named after an urban ghost legend involving a grandma who died from a motorcycle accident; it is said that the mischievous ghost appears half-bodied and spooks bikers who race in the dark. For inquiries, you may email speedygrandma.rathon@gmail.com or call +66895083859.

Kickstart your casual gastronomic adventure with Okonomiyaki with Fried Egg, a savoury Japanese pancake with cabbage and meat, topped with a sunny-side-up egg. You can pair it with a hefty serving of Giant Octopus Takoyaki for a filling meal. When we say giant, you get four pieces bigger than the usual Takoyaki and each ball is filled with tender chunks of octopus which means you get your money’s worth with every bite.

Love sushi? Different kinds of sushi are also available, with some priced between THB10 to THB20.

When visiting night markets, some prefer to eat while exploring the different stalls and what they have on sale. Pancake lovers will enjoy trying the Thai Coconut Pancake in flower-like shapes or the bigger Coconut Pandan Pancake. If you’re on the lookout for alternatives to Pad Thai and Tom Yum, you can order the famous Leng Saeb/Saep or pork neck bones soup. Pack your bags and make your Japan dreams come true, travel junkies, because Thai AirAsia is now offering direct flights from Bangkok to Japan’s southern paradise island, Okinawa!

The new route will take off from the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok and land at Okinawa’s Naha Airport four times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The airline announced the news through welcoming ceremonies held at both airports.

According to their press release, the launch is part of the airline’s expansion efforts in Japan. It is also their second Japan-bound route, following Fukuoka.

The airline will also be offering various promotions and affordable fares for the route very soon.

On what pushed AirAsia to offer the new route, Santisuk Klongchaiya, chief executive officer (CEO) of Thai AirAsia, said, “Japan remains a top destination for Thai travelers as can be seen from our direct flights to Fukuoka that has increased from 4 weekly to daily flights in just a short period of time. The demand has led Thai AirAsia to adding Don Mueang-Okinawa that takes off today.”

Visiting Japan soon? Book the new flight route via AirAsia’s website or its AirAsia Move app.
